Rock Candy from JulieG‘s FrostedGumDrops collection is the polish I have for you today. This came to me by way of a deal that Groupon had a couple months back, where the set was only $12.99! I could NOT pass that deal up. My only regret is that I didn’t get another set for gifting or a giveaway. This is the first textured polish I’ve tried. As soon as the ‘sandy’ look came out, I wasn’t sure how fond of it I would be, if at all. What I love about polish is its glossy, smooth shine, and this did not seem to fit the bill. After seeing many swatches and blog posts about this, I decided to take the plunge.
As you can see, Rock Candy is a pale teal polish with the obvious silver glitter strewn throughout. The polish should be applied in thin coats for best results, according to the website’s description, and I would have to agree that using thick layers could cause this polish to chunk up rather quickly. It’s also stated that the polish can take up to 10 minutes to dry fully, so definitely take that into consideration when painting your nails with any of the polishes from this collection.
For the truly matte and textured appearance of this polish you should not use a topcoat. The pictures above show the polish this way. Below is the polish with two coats of Seche Vite. This allows you to still see all the glittery goodness of this polish while smoothing it out and giving that high gloss shine that I really love about polish.
Thanks for taking a peek into my polish obsession today. Feel free to leave any comments below, I do love to hear from those who stop by. Hope you have a happy hump day!
Today I am sharing with you a color from Julep‘s June 2013 It Girl box called Nan. As you can see in the photo above, the box also includes the colors Char, a navy creme, and Bess, a baby blue creme. Char and Bess will be coming to you in separate posts at some time in the future. Julep’s website describes Nan as a Nantucket red creme. Since I am not familiar with “Nantucket red”, my first impression was a that of a dusty salmon color. I will say that after googling the term Nantucket red, this is exactly what I see in the returned images. So in the process of blogging about nails, I’ve added to my bank of trivial knowledge. Two bird with one stone and whatnot. But I digress… 🙂
However you describe it, the color was a great application and nicely pigmented, I didn’t have any streaking when applying the color. These photos are two coats with a clear topcoat (China Glaze Fast Forward, if memory serves).
I really like Julep’s nail polish, and they usually give me pretty good wear. Considering I type all day at work then type at night at home for school, blogging or social media, anything over 2-3 days without major chipping is pretty darn good for me. lol Does anyone else subscribe to Julep’s Maven boxes and, if so, what do you think? I’ve been lucky and have had good experiences with them and their customer service.
As always, thanks for reading. I hope you all have a great day!!!
OH, I almost forgot! My first granddaughter was born yesterday!! OMG, right?? Her name is Mia Rose and here is a pic of her adorable little mug. Are there any other blogging grannies out there? Holla!!! 🙂
Sorry for being MIA for a while, life got in the way of blogging. 🙂
Today I have a set I just received from SquareHue, the SoBe Collection for June 2013. SquareHue offers a monthly subscription service that offers a themed three-polish set for $21, shipping included. Their polishes are 3-free, they are not tested on animals and they are made proudly in the USA! They also donate a portion of their proceeds to causes helping those in need; their current focus is human trafficking.
I will admit that what drew me to them was their bottle design and packaging. However, once I started actually using their polish, I was made a customer for life. The one caveat is that colors are not previewable, so you get what you get when you order. I have yet to be dissatisfied with any colors. 🙂
These colors are very art deco and completely South Beach. I grew up in Miami and can tell you that the art deco district of Miami’s South Beach is saturated with these beautiful shades! Below are the colors included in this month’s set.
To go along with these ocean themed polishes, I decided to do some similarly themed stamping. I used Cheeky plate CH36 and chose the life preserver and anchor, as you can see. This is the second time I’ve used my CheekySummer Collection plates and, after looking through them again, I see some really great images I can’t wait to use. The images transferred really well, but I don’t think the mani came out as awesome as I had anticipated. Maybe next time I will use Collins Avenue as the base instead of the stamping color, we’ll see. Do any of you subscribe to SquareHue and, if so, what do you think? Is there any nail polish or beauty subscription box that you just LOVE? Let me know, I would like to check out some new goodies! 🙂
