OHHHHHH the humanity, how are we to go on???? I’ll tell you how. With nubs. LOL
Oh, and some Pure™ Nail Oil! This nail oil is made with jojoba oil versus almond oil as is found in many cuticle oils. This jojoba oil is said to more closely resemble our body’s natural oil (sebum) and is absorbed more efficiently into the keratin layers of the nail than others are. Check out the website here for more information.
I purchased my Pure Nail Oil some time ago, but I haven’t used it regularly (as you can tell by my gnarly nails and cuticles below). The recommended initial 3-day Initial Hydration Treatment may not be enough for some, as I have read, and I may continue beyond that if necessary. Every time I used the oil my nails and cuticles responded very well and I am anxious to see what the full treatment can do.
The images below show the nails of both hands completely cut down due to the Middle Finger Destruction of 2013, and I have not used any cuticle oil in at least 36-48 hours. You can see that the cuticles on my middle finger (left hand) are a complete mess and I have dryness and hangnails all over the place. YUCK!!
On my left hand you will find some really horrible cuticle damage on the middle finger and some hangnails on the pinky finger.
On my right hand there is also some serious dryness and hangnail issues also. I am looking forward to seeing some healthy skin and non-splitting nails to come with the oil treatment.
During this nail rehab, I will post previously-photographed-and-yet-to-be-posted polishes along with progress photos of my nail treatment and growth.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are having a great weekend!
In honor of the release of the Monster’s Inc. sequel, Monster’s University, I decided to try a themed manicure with some nail art. Nothing fancy, as I am sure you can tell, but something other than just stamping or tape designs. I was inspired by a manicure I saw on Twitter (or Instagram) and can’t for the LIFE of me find it to give credit. If/when I do, I will update this post. I chose the polishes below to use in this design.
Polishes Used (L-R)
Finger Paints Sexy Sundress
Elevation Polish Elbrus
NYC 134 French White Tip
NYC 119 Black Lace Creme
China Glaze Spontaneous
I used Elevation’s Elbrus as the base for the “Sully” nails (and Mike’s eyes) and Finger Paints Sexy Sundress for the “Mike” nail. While Elbrus is more of a purple polish, after photographing it I couldn’t seem to get anything but blue so I chose to use it for this. Plus it’s an awesome bargain I got from a blog sale and wanted to use it anyhow. 🙂 I stamped Sully’ s spots with a plate (can’t remember which and can’t seem to find it, either GRRRR ), if you recognize it let me know hahah. That’s about it. How do you think it came out?
As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great week ahead!
Today’s category in the challenge is SPACE. Since I have a bunch of plates I haven’t used or featured on the blog, I figured this would help me to best create a space-themed design. In came my Cheeky Summer Collection plates, number CH46 to be specific, and then the challenge was to pick a design or designs to use. If only there had been 5 full nail patterns. Alas, there are not and I decided to pick two full-nail and one small image.
(Left to Right)
Glitter Me This Purple Holo
Pure Ice SilverMercedes
The holographic sparkle of the Purple Holo over Char didn’t come out like I was hoping it would, oh well. I started with just the silver stamped over the base, and didn’t like that so I added the same stamping in black. Make sure to check out the other bloggers submissions for today’s space themes using the links below. I have seen some AMAZING manis this week.
One more thing. I am using two different cameras (one smartphone and one REAL camera lol) and was hoping to get opinions from you guys as to which photo you think looks better. They were both taken under similar conditions with flash and I am not sure which I like most. If you can click on the poll down there and let me know what YOU think, that would be awesome!!
The beauty blogging community lost a member this week. Talia Joy Castellano, who while bravely battling two forms of cancer became a successful beauty vlogger, an honorary Cover Girl and even made an appearance on the Ellen Degeneres show, lost her battle with the disease at the tender age of 13. To see her beauty product reviews and tutorials you can check her out HEREon YouTube. I only came to know of her in recent weeks, but I found her happiness and desire to share with others in spite of the hardships she has been facing the last 5 years is a testament to the power of the human spirit and positive thinking.
Nicole at Nail Polish Wars has coordinated a show of support throughout the blogging community in honor of Talia’s passing, check out her post HEREfor more information. Since she was wearing mint colored nail polish in her last posted photograph, bloggers and non-bloggers alike are posting their mint manicures to show love, support and sympathy for the friends and loved ones of this incredibly talented girl taken from us far too soon.
The colors I used for this look are Ocean Drive from SquareHue and Angel Burp from I ♥ Nail Polish. The Ocean Drive is the closest I have to a minty color, so glad I had it on hand (no pun intended), and the Angel Burp is not only a beautiful accent to it, but it seems to ……. fit. 🙂
Hello, everyone. Yes, me again, I know! What’s up with THAT? Just keeping up with the Comic-Con Geek Week Nail Art challenge. Today’s theme is inspiration from a comic book, and the first thing that came to mind was Batman. The yellow and black from the comic’s cover would surely be included in this manicure and I think I know how I can achieve a themed design with my newbie skills. 🙂
Colors and Plate Used
Cult Nails You’re My Dandy Lion
I used Cult Nails You’re My Dandy Lion as the base and then did nail art with stamping and a brush. My Cheeky plate set had some of the traditional comic book Zap, Bam, and Pows I needed to pull this off with minimal brush work. The ‘BOOM’ in the middle is a bit wonky, but I’m sure you get it. 🙂 Note to self, swatching nails can and should be used to practice new techniques. Another love I have that stems from Batman is that Adam West has a prominent part in one of my favorite animated TV shows, Family Guy. Wonderfully irreverent and full of laughs! But I digress….
I hoped you like this manicure, I think now that I have finally tried to use my brushes I am a little more confident in the thought of me being able to use them to make pretty things and not just blobs of paint. Clearly I need a lot of work, but practice makes perfect. Make sure to check out everyone else’s manicures for the day 4 challenge using the links below!
Hey, everybody, guess what I have for you today? Book review! No. Nail art! The movie I chose to represent my Day 3 entry in the Comic-Con Geek Week Nail Art challenge is Star Trek (2009).
Colors Used (l-r)
Nicole by OPI Kort is Red-y For A Pedi
Nails Inc. Hampstead Gardens
OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook
Since I am a horrible artist, I chose to use my nail art to represent the uniforms of the crew of the Starship Enterprise. I even used my brushes again to paint the little symbols on the breast of the uniform! I tried doing them on a plastic bag like I did for my Day 1 submission HERE, but that did not work and I ended up painting them directly on the nail by hand. Oddly enough, they came off the bag overnight and now I have random gold Star Trek emblems on my workspace. Ahhh, memories.
So that’s my movie-inspired manicure, I hope you like it! Can I tell you how excited I am to see everyone else’s manis?? I think I just did! Use the links below to check them out for yourself.
Hello geeks and nail polish aficionados alike! Today’s post is another for the Comic-Con Geek Week Nail Art Challenge, day 2, which is inspired by a TV show. My choice is LOST.
Yes, I’m a Lostie. The show is available in its entirety on Blue-Ray and Netflix, and I would definitely recommend you viewing it if you haven’t already. To give you a short synopsis in case you are not familiar with it, it’s the story of plane-wreck surviving castaways who find themselves on an island with seemingly mystical powers. The series encompasses 6 seasons (120 episodes) of wonderful story telling, innumerable plot twists and a cast that comes together so perfectly for both the purposes of this tale and keeping at least one female’s attention the WHOLE time (any Sawyer fans, out there?). My oh my. Anyhow, on to the nail polish.
The part of the show I chose to represent with my manicure is Charlie Pace’s taped fingers on which he wrote several words over the course of the tape’s life on the show (Love, Hate, Fate, etc). Since I didn’t want to leave my thumb out of the deal, I included the numbers that are intertwined throughout the story and the various survivors’ lives. I meant for them to be more randomly positioned, but I couldn’t find my super-fine Sharpie. Poo. The polish I used is OPI’s Alpine Snow and a black Sharpie. Another shot, this time showcasing a nail polish bottle in my hand.
While I did unsuccessfully search the entire interwebz for a picture of Shannon painting her toenails on the beach as the other survivors searched the wreckage for life-saving food, water and medicine, I did find a picture of her sunning herself while they did so. Ain’t she a peach? LOL
So, what do you think? I can’t wait to see everyone else’s manicures this week, make sure to check them out, too, using the links below!
