Happy Friday, everybody!  The weekend is upon us as is the start of the Twinkie Nail Art challenge.  This is a one manicure per week challenge, on Fridays during August, which is more my speed as far as these things go.  I’ve only done one challenge before, and that was a 5 day one which seemed to work OK. this challenge is being hosted by Polished by Beckie and Spilled Milk Nails.  Thank you, ladies, for giving me a chance to force myself to practice nail art LOL.  I am excited to do my actual first ever gradient for this challenge, stay tuned to the blog to witness that next week!  First, however, is today’s challenge: the Throwback mani.

OPI Scores A Goal!

Hello, all!  I hope you all are having a great week so far. I have been looking for a job for a couple weeks, with my recent contract position ending, and am also looking to move from an administrative role to a more technical one in the process.  That makes a job search really interesting, let me tell ya.  I had an interview for what would be my FIRST EVER technical job in an SAP support role and I think it actually went well.  I am three classes away from my Bachelor’s in Computer Science, so it’s about time I put my “nerdy girl” pants on and got into the field I wanted to be in.   Time will tell if this is the first step, but it’s on my mind and wanted to share. But I digress.  What I really wanted to talk to you about is today’s polish…..

Today I am sharing OPI Scores A Goal! from the Spring/Summer 2014 Brazil Collection.  Looks like I am a day (at least) late and a dollar short on riding the coattails of FIFA’s World Cup frenzy, huh?  Wish me better luck in 2016 (and hope for anther coordinating polish set being released relating to the host country).  Anyhow, back to the polish lol.  This color is a very rich, brown-leaning purple polish. Maybe a purple leaning brown?  Take your pick.  I’ve seen this described as a purplish-red or grey, but there seems to be more brown in this color than red or grey to me.  I suppose it could depend on the skin tone of the person wearing it?

Colors by llarowe – Behead the Drama Queen!

Happy Saturday, all!  Is it just me or can anyone else not believe it’s almost July already?  I suppose time flies whether or not you’re having fun, huh?  LOL

Today’s polish isn’t necessarily a bright, summery color, but I love it and wanted to share it just the same. 🙂  It’s one of my first polishes from Colors by llarowe.  There are several polishes from this line in my hoard collection and the quality of this brand is consistently high.  The colors are all very highly pigmented and the holographic polishes I have are all fabulously ……. sparkly!

I’m back with Elevation Polish’s Toubkal :)

Hello, all!  Sorry to have let my life outside of my nail polish addiction cut into my blogging time for as long as I did.  Work, school, and family medical issues have taken a lot of my time, as I am sure most of you can relate to.  I have been painting photographing and occasionally browsing blogs, but just haven’t had the time to blog myself.  I will make a sincere effort to share more consistently in the future. *crossing heart*  Now on to today’s polish.

Today’s polish is one that I purchased through a blog sale at Fingers Polish ManiaHere is a link to her sale page, in case you want to take a peek.  If anyone is interested, it was a speedy and pleasant experience buying this polish and I will certainly keep browsing her page for goodies :). Elevation’s polishes are so beautiful and I had been wanting to try them for some time.  When I found a bunch of them for sale, I had to snatch them up! Along with Toubkal, I managed to get a hold of Aurora, Broad Peak, Elbrus, Rapa Nui and Ubsunur.  These are not on the blog outside the group shot of my haul below YET, but will be eventually. 😀

Blog sale bargains!

Toubkal from Elevation Polish is a burgundy jelly polish that is just packed with golden flakies and microglitter.  My photographs really don’t do this polish justice, but you can definitely get an idea of how packed full of golden glow this polish is.  These photos show two coats of polish with base and top coat, and clearly this polish offers smooth application and full coverage.  AND without having to put on a third coat, yay!  I think that with the right pale or pastel base color, this one might even work well as a topcoat. I will have to play with that one and see what I can come up with.  Who else has this polish and what do you think of it?

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you all had a great holiday season and that 2014 is off to a great start. 🙂

SquareHue Salute Collection July 2013

Today’s post is devoted to SquareHue’s Salute Collection for July 2013.  You’ve seen many polishes from SquareHue if you follow and will likely see many more if you stick around. 🙂  For more information on what SquareHue is all about you can check my post here.  This month’s collection is clearly dedicated to the military forces, what with July 4th being the United State’s birthday and all.  While I was expecting either red, white and blue or a set of camouflage colors (light OR dark), I was surprised to see bits and pieces of what I had in mind strewn throughout this month’s collection of the appropriately-named polishes: Valor, Patriot and Honor.

SquareHue Salute Collection July 2013

Valor

Valor is a military olive green jelly polish that dries to a nice shine even without a topcoat.  The photos you see here are three thin coats and a layer of China Glaze’s Fast Forward Topcoat (my topper of choice, these days).  This color was very sheer so I did use three coats versus the two coats I normally use in a mani.  It did get me to a nice opaque color, although under flash there was some visible nail line (VNL). As usual, the application was smooth and drying time is decent, as I was able to apply subsequent coats within 3-5 minutes.  This applies to all polishes in the collection.

Patriot

Patriot is a bright blue sheer jelly polish, a bit lighter than the color found in the American flag.  I love it’s brightness compared to the drab olive green of Valor.  It definitely brings some pizazz to this collection.  As with Valor, this color was very sheer and VNL was evident in this flash photo.  With either a fourth thin coat, thicker coats to start with or perhaps some nude undies this will likely be reduced or eliminated.  Although how many of us really have the paparazzi flashes following us around all day for this to really be that much of an issue, huh?  These sheer polishes would be a no-no for stamping, unless you are looking for muted colors and are stamping over a very light base color.  Application and drying time were good with this polish.

Honor

Honor is a gold foil polish that, by the way, works GREAT if you like to stamp!  Take a peek here if you’d like to see it.  This polish was completely opaque in two coats although you can probably get away with a single coat if you really don’t feel like using two.  I think that their use of gold and the name Honor signifies the importance and value that honor has in the lives of all, especially those who serve to protect the freedom of Americans at home and abroad.  A special thank you goes out to all who are serving and unable to be with their families for this holiday.  Your sacrifices are acknowledged and appreciated.

Honor by SquareHue

So that’s the collection for this month.  How do you like it, do you have a favorite color?  Hope you are all having a great weekend.  Thanks for reading!!
