Happy Friday, everybody! The weekend is upon us as is the start of the Twinkie Nail Art challenge. This is a one manicure per week challenge, on Fridays during August, which is more my speed as far as these things go. I’ve only done one challenge before, and that was a 5 day one which seemed to work OK. this challenge is being hosted by Polished by Beckie and Spilled Milk Nails. Thank you, ladies, for giving me a chance to force myself to practice nail art LOL. I am excited to do my actual first ever gradient for this challenge, stay tuned to the blog to witness that next week! First, however, is today’s challenge: the Throwback mani.
Hey, everybody! I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. So far so good here. I am cat-sitting for friends/neighbors so my cats are wondering why I have strange smells on me. You cat lovers know that look they give you, as if to say, “Where have YOU been and WHO have you been PETTING!?!?”. I suppose it’s the equivalent of a man who’s spoken for coming home to his lady with stripper glitter all over him. LOL Cats, gotta love ’em.
This is another of my Smart Style Salon bargains. Check here for more information if you are not familiar with Smart Style Salons and their love of selling OPI polishes Buy One Get TWO Free! Seriously. Not one part of that scenario makes me mad. *sweet smile* Anyhow, I have more OPI Polish on the menu today. OPI Vant To Bite My Neck? comes to me from 2013’s Euro Centrale Collection. So many clever names for these polishes, huh? This is the truest purple creme polish I own. It’s dark and smooth and in some lighting actually takes on a bit of a dusty look. This polish could be used as a single layer polish if you really wanted to save some time.
Hello, all! I hope you all are having a great week so far. I have been looking for a job for a couple weeks, with my recent contract position ending, and am also looking to move from an administrative role to a more technical one in the process. That makes a job search really interesting, let me tell ya. I had an interview for what would be my FIRST EVER technical job in an SAP support role and I think it actually went well. I am three classes away from my Bachelor’s in Computer Science, so it’s about time I put my “nerdy girl” pants on and got into the field I wanted to be in. Time will tell if this is the first step, but it’s on my mind and wanted to share. But I digress. What I really wanted to talk to you about is today’s polish…..
Today I am sharing OPI Scores A Goal! from the Spring/Summer 2014 Brazil Collection. Looks like I am a day (at least) late and a dollar short on riding the coattails of FIFA’s World Cup frenzy, huh? Wish me better luck in 2016 (and hope for anther coordinating polish set being released relating to the host country). Anyhow, back to the polish lol. This color is a very rich, brown-leaning purple polish. Maybe a purple leaning brown? Take your pick. I’ve seen this described as a purplish-red or grey, but there seems to be more brown in this color than red or grey to me. I suppose it could depend on the skin tone of the person wearing it?
Inspired by a movie
Hey, everybody, guess what I have for you today? Book review! No. Nail art! The movie I chose to represent my Day 3 entry in the Comic-Con Geek Week Nail Art challenge is Star Trek (2009).
Colors Used (l-r)
Nicole by OPI Kort is Red-y For A Pedi
Nails Inc. Hampstead Gardens
OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook
Since I am a horrible artist, I chose to use my nail art to represent the uniforms of the crew of the Starship Enterprise. I even used my brushes again to paint the little symbols on the breast of the uniform! I tried doing them on a plastic bag like I did for my Day 1 submission HERE, but that did not work and I ended up painting them directly on the nail by hand. Oddly enough, they came off the bag overnight and now I have random gold Star Trek emblems on my workspace. Ahhh, memories.
So that’s my movie-inspired manicure, I hope you like it! Can I tell you how excited I am to see everyone else’s manis?? I think I just did! Use the links below to check them out for yourself.
As always, thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a great Hump Day!!
Inspired by a TV Show
Hello geeks and nail polish aficionados alike! Today’s post is another for the Comic-Con Geek Week Nail Art Challenge, day 2, which is inspired by a TV show. My choice is LOST.
Yes, I’m a Lostie. The show is available in its entirety on Blue-Ray and Netflix, and I would definitely recommend you viewing it if you haven’t already. To give you a short synopsis in case you are not familiar with it, it’s the story of plane-wreck surviving castaways who find themselves on an island with seemingly mystical powers. The series encompasses 6 seasons (120 episodes) of wonderful story telling, innumerable plot twists and a cast that comes together so perfectly for both the purposes of this tale and keeping at least one female’s attention the WHOLE time (any Sawyer fans, out there?). My oh my. Anyhow, on to the nail polish.
The part of the show I chose to represent with my manicure is Charlie Pace’s taped fingers on which he wrote several words over the course of the tape’s life on the show (Love, Hate, Fate, etc). Since I didn’t want to leave my thumb out of the deal, I included the numbers that are intertwined throughout the story and the various survivors’ lives. I meant for them to be more randomly positioned, but I couldn’t find my super-fine Sharpie. Poo. The polish I used is OPI’s Alpine Snow and a black Sharpie. Another shot, this time showcasing a nail polish bottle in my hand.
While I did unsuccessfully search the entire interwebz for a picture of Shannon painting her toenails on the beach as the other survivors searched the wreckage for life-saving food, water and medicine, I did find a picture of her sunning herself while they did so. Ain’t she a peach? LOL
So, what do you think? I can’t wait to see everyone else’s manicures this week, make sure to check them out, too, using the links below!
Thanks for stopping by!!
Today I am adding a couple new looks to an old pair of undies (LOL), aka OPI’s Don’t Pretzel My Buttons. I used it here before in a stamping mani, check it out. It’s a very nice neutral palette to add any other color glitter or stamping to. Today I am adding a new glitter polish I recently acquired through the wonder that is the interwebs.
I added a lovely new polish of mine from I Love Nail Polish called A Nice Chianti. It’s a gorgeous combination of with small magenta glitter and hexes in a clear base. The glitter spreads nice and even and I didn’t have to do any fishing to get a brush-ful. It applied nicely and dried in a reasonable amount of time.
Finally I added a coat of Top Tastic from Sparkles by Julie. She’s closing up shop, I believe, and all polishes are on clearance. Go snatch some up while they last!! Top Tastic is a gorgeous holographic topcoat. I can see using this over many, many color and can’t wait to use it again. You can see the effect best on my middle finger in the photo below. I absolutely love it and am VERY glad I got some. The application was great and dry time was normal.
OK, that’s it for today, folks. I am going to be doing some updating to the look of my blog soon, so keep your eyes peeled for a new me!
On a non-polish related matter, we are getting ready for hubby to have neck surgery tomorrow, his third since last July. It’s been a pain, literally and figuratively, and we hope this will be the last one. Any good vibes you can send his way are gratefully accepted.
Have a great week!!
Happy (almost) Hump Day, everyone! Today’s post is part of another set I got my hands on from OPI. Their site is really awesome, you can ‘try on ‘ their colors and even adjust the length of the nails shown in the display! Nail geekdom at its finest, I must say. But I digress, back to the topic at hand. The Euro Centrale mini set includes the polishes listed below:
- Can’t Find My Czechbook
- Suzy’s Hungary AGAIN!
- You’re Such A BudaPest
- OY-Another Polish Joke!
The polish swatch I am sharing today is called Can’t Find My Chezhbook (I just LOVE these polish names LOL). It’s a baby blue creme that dries to a nice shine. It was a bit streaky, but two layers gave complete coverage as you can see below. It’s a bit darker/smokier in artificial light, so if you think the blue below might be a bit too much, it does tone down. The photo below was taken in sunlight. So, I’m wearing this color, and I think to myself, “Self, you should stamp something really cool and sparkly on top of this!”
So the color I chose to stamp on top is one of the colors from Color Club‘s 2013 Halo Hues collection, called Beyond. I haven’t swatched it yet, but will eventually. This one is a black linear holographic polish, so I thought it would fit the bill with sparkle and add some contrasting dark color too. I pulled out my Cheeky stamping plate CH2, and proceeded to perpetrate the crime against nail stamping that you see below. I don’t know what it is lately, but my stamping mojo is missing. I hope I can get it back, because I LOVE stamping and it’s so disappointing when you try and the end result really isn’t what you had intended. Oh well, pity party over. LOL It looks OK and I can’t wait to see it out in the sun, I’d like to see how much sparkle I really get.
Thanks for stopping by, as always, feel free to leave any comments if you feel so inclined. Have a great week!
