Orly Red Flare – Bargain find!

Breaking Bargain News!

Howdy, folks! I know it’s been a while, and I appreciate those that stick around for my now and again blogging style lol. I’ve got so many polish pics taken and just need to put posts together. There are actually a handful in draft status that I will work on getting posted in the near future. The world needs to see my nails, and I am going to show them! Eventually.  But I digress, I am hear to talk about an amazing bargain I found, not my shortcomings as a blogger…….

Random Manicures

Here are some manicures I’ve done in the last couple weeks.  I’ve been busy with school. so haven’t been as attentive to the blog as I would like to be.  I will have to stockpile some photos and set up posts when I have some time to steal away.  🙂

The first one uses Nicole by OPI’s Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam, a dark forest green/teal cream, with an accent nail of Lush Lacquer’s Frankenmama, a clear base packed with with small purple glitter, matte black bright green hex glitter.  I was hoping to pick up a bit more of the green from the Frankenmama  to highlight the dark teal green of the Lam-Lam, but it wasn’t meant to be apparently.  Also, excuse mu super dry cuticles, must not have used my cuticle butter that day.

Here’s Torrid from Orly’s Holiday Minis set.  LOVE IT!  It’s a bright and shiny red with a slightly gold shimmer that looks great indoors and explodes in sunlight!  These are photos taken indoors with artificial light, so it’s not so apparent.  I will have to remember to get some outdoor shots next time I have it on.  While this color does bring Christmas to mind immediately, I think it is one that can be broken out year-round whenever you need a little pick-me-up.

The phrase “Santa Baby” came to mind when I first saw it on my nails.  This is one that I may actually get a full sized bottle of in addition to the mini that came with this set.

Now here it is with an accent nail using Nicole by OPI’s A Gold Winter’s Night.  This glitter rocks!  It’s a clear base with TONS of gold rose colored glitter, along with a bunch of holographic bars.  It can be used over any color and will give full coverage in 2 or 3 coats.  I am cuckoo for glitter lately, not sure what’s up with that.  Mid-life crisis you say?  No comment. <stern looks all around>

That’s it for now.  I hope you are all having a wonderful fall and that you enjoy your Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping if you’re a reader from the US.  I never really used to be into the whole Black Friday thing, but have made the treck out for the last several years.  It’s kind of like a shopping version of new year’s eve party!  LOL  More of a social event and if you get some good deals out of it, awesome!!   I do some online also, so it’s not all complete madness.  (*^_^*)

Everyone else have a great week ahead!

Dysfunctional Fashionista

It all started with an awesome bargain find at Ulta.  While checking their clearance area I found this awesome set of minis.  While I am not necessarily a Kardashian “fan”, who can pass up cute polish at a great price! Not THIS gal <points at self>….

The set below contains mini versions of four colors:

My Empire… My Rules is a charcoal grey creme
Follow Me on Glitter is a gunmetal/charcoal grey glitter polish full of multicolored hex glitter
Khloé Had a Little Lam-Lam is a dark teal/forest green creme
Hard-Kourt Fashionista. is a deep brown with a bit of a red undertone.  This is the one I am using in today’s manicure.

These colors are great for fall/winter, as they are dark, rich and very warm.

Super bargain from Ulta!

Nicole by OPI “Sophisti-cuties” includes (from left to right):
My Empire… My Rules, Follow Me on Glitter, Khloé Had a Little Lam-Lam and Hard-Kourt Fashionista

At first I was going to just do a manicure with the lighter accent nail and dots in the darker color.  I’ve been playing around with dots a lot lately and figured it would look nice.  I liked the way the accent nail looked so much that I decided to carry the dots throughout the manicure!  It looks like my middle and ring fingers weren’t as dry as I thought, as you probably notice a bit of a smear in the dots.  I still love this look, though, and I am sure I will be using it again.

Here is another shot with the Decades of Dysfunction bottle.  This color seems to pop up a lot in my manicures.  I think it’s my favorite of the Dark Shadows Collection from Orly.  It’s not completely nude but it still goes well with a number of other colors.

That’s it for now.  I hope you all enjoyed this design.  What neat things have any of you done with your dotting tools?  Let me know, I am always looking for new ways to work in dots!

Thanks for reading!

To-Teally Hot Manicure

Hello, again! Thought I would share another manicure I managed to get done.  It’s another one using stamping, which I think is just about the neatest thing EVER!!!  I’ve got the new 2012 Bundle Monster plates in my mailbox as I type, so this one might not last too long.  We’ll see, there are some really great images on these plates.  Check them out here, if you like.

First here are the colors I used: Finger Paints To-Teally Hot and Orly Decades of Dysfunction.  I’ve managed to use this Orly color a couple times, but this is the first use of To-Teally Hot.  Very nice color, opaque and not at all streaky.  Same with the Orly color too, actually.  Excellent, even coverage with 2 coats.

First, I start with a base of To-Teally Hot.  This is a nice, bold summer color.

Then I stamped a pattern (again with my Cheeky plate) with Decades of Dysfunction.  This stamping thing is really addicting.  So many options, so many more that can be bought.  Can you say DANGER!!!  Put the credit card down and step away from the laptop.  But I digress….

Here’s a close-up of the design.  I’m not sure how to describe it, maybe a reverse giraffe print?  Or a regular giraffe print?  haha  Feel free to let me know if you have any better ideas as to what kind of pattern this is.  🙂

In spite of my trying to use new and exciting nail treatments to help my nails get stronger, they seem to be constantly breaking.  With any luck this phase won’t last too long.  If anyone has any tips on a product that they use that has given them good results, I am open to suggestions.  I am using OPI’s Nail Envy Nail Strengthener, but it doesn’t seem to be doing the trick.

Thanks for reading – hope you are all having a great weekend.

PS  Today is my mom’s 70th birthday, and we had a nice afternoon together capped off with my mom’s famous Breaded Steak, made by me this time.  I got a thumbs up!!  🙂
PPS   I think I am finally getting a hang of these pictures.  I hope to get better and better with practice, as with anything else.  Enjoy the ride!
